Finding Your Own Star Power

Shine in Ways That Feel Right for You

Your marketing strengths are the foundation of a strategy that works.

Imagine yourself as a star with five points. Each point represents a unique marketing strength that can help you shine brightly and grow your business.

But here’s the thing, not everyone feels drawn to all five key points in marketing. And that’s perfectly okay!

Embracing the marketing strengths that come naturally to you can make your business shine in ways that feel authentic and right.

1. Relationship Building

If connecting on social media or networking feels like a chore, focus on one small step: choose a community or network that aligns with your values.

Consistency is more important than quantity, so show up where you feel welcome and authentic.

2. Content Marketing

Each of these five points is a way to express your marketing strengths in a style that fits your comfort zone.

Maybe blogging isn’t your thing, and that’s totally fine. Instead, try sharing shorter posts, quick tips, or images that resonate with your message.

An occasional heartfelt update or success story can be just as powerful as a long blog post.

3. Service or Product Promotion

If discussing your offerings feels challenging, consider one area of your expertise where you feel particularly excited.

For example, try sharing a recent success story or testimonial that speaks for itself. Simple, consistent mentions keep your services top of mind without feeling pushy.

4. Video Alternatives

Don’t love the idea of being on camera? No problem! Written posts, audio messages, or slide decks can still get your message across.

People love authentic stories, and those come in many forms beyond video.

5. Sharing Your Marketing Strengths Without the Spotlight

Public speaking isn’t for everyone, and you don’t have to step on a stage to share your expertise.

Write a guest article, offer insights into a collaborative project, or start small by sharing your ideas with a close-knit group.

Ultimately, there are many ways to be heard that don’t involve a mic!

Here’s a Little Secret: Growth Happens One Step at a Time

Trying something outside your comfort zone can be uncomfortable, but it gets easier with practice.

Let me share a story with you. In 2016, I joined a paid Facebook group run by VA Classroom (now FreelanceUniversity.com).

I had been a paid, active group member for a year, responding to questions from the other members. They must have seen something in my answers because they offered me a paid mentor role.

I used this private Facebook group to get more comfortable engaging with other members and answering their questions. This was a big step for me; however, I said yes—and that decision turned into something powerful.

Since then, I’ve grown comfortable creating content for social media, blogs, and my weekly newsletter and, just recently, a Substack channel. Link

Then came the next big uncomfortable thing: doing videos and reels. Taking that one small step led me to where I am today.

As a result, taking that one small step led me to where I am today… sharing my expertise far and wide, both live and in recorded form.

Embracing Videos: Making It Simple and Fun to Share Your Story

In fact, videos have a unique way of connecting with people, but getting on camera doesn’t come naturally for everyone. I’ll admit it took me a while to get comfortable with the idea of creating videos for my business.

When I first started sharing content online, I was comfortable with writing. However, I felt nervous about moving to video. Then, I decided to give it a try with short, simple videos, focusing on sharing one tip or thought at a time. And it turned out to be enjoyable!

Starting small helped me realize that videos don’t have to be complicated to be impactful. In fact, sometimes the most effective videos are the simple, authentic ones. Here are some easy tips to help you get started with videos and enjoy the process:

Simple Ways to Start Sharing Your Message with Video

1. Begin with Short, Simple Clips

To begin with, start by recording short clips (under a minute) where you share one tip or answer a common question. This approach helps you ease into video content without feeling overwhelmed. In most cases, you can record directly from your phone, no fancy equipment needed.

2. Practice with Stories or Reels

Platforms like Instagram and Facebook Stories are ideal for first-time video creators. Stories disappear after 24 hours, so there’s less pressure to be perfect. Instead, think of it as a quick conversation with your audience—casual, relaxed, and in-the-moment.

3. Use Visual Aids if You’re Shy on Camera

If being on camera feels intimidating, consider creating videos with visual elements like slides, images, or screen shares. You can narrate over these visuals, sharing your expertise without needing to be in front of the lens.

4. Focus on Being You—Not Perfect

People are drawn to real, relatable content. Instead of focusing on perfection, think of videos as a way to connect with others by being yourself. Your audience will appreciate your authenticity far more than any polish.

5. Try Batch Recording for Efficiency

Additionally, If you’re feeling inspired, batch-record a few short videos in one sitting. It saves time, and you’ll get more comfortable with each take, making the process feel easier.

Remember, it’s all about taking small steps. As you grow more comfortable, the more you practice, the more you’ll enjoy sharing your story in this engaging format. As a result, Your audience will love connecting with you, too, as they see your personality shine through!

The key? Start with just one area where you’d like to feel more comfortable. Focus on getting familiar there, and over time, you’ll build the confidence to expand into other areas.

No matter your pace, learning how to express your marketing strengths in a way that feels good is what sets you apart.

The Real Secret? Express Your Marketing Strengths Authentically

Success doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Pick the approaches that align with who you are, and let go of what doesn’t.

The key to shining brightly is feeling good about what you do, and that’s when others will feel drawn to your light, too. Before you know it, you’ll be shining like the star you are!
